BMC-AVRC

The Behavioral Measurement Core (BMC) and its Audio-Visual Resource Center (AVRC) provide a broad range of services and equipment for projects affiliated with the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute and the Neurodevelopmental Disorders Research Center.

BMC-AVRC provides the following standard services to FPG people and projects:

  • Consultation for grant proposals involving observational research and/or use of AV media in data collection, training of observers, or dissemination.
  • Limited initial background research / consulting regarding equipment purchases for grant preparation and eventual purchase, including selection of equipment and vendors and obtaining quotations.
  • Basic, introductory training:
    • for dubbing/video capture/conversion to digital format for video and audio files.
    • for independent audio and video recording at on- and off-site (e.g., home visits, schools) locations.
    • in the use of behavioral measurement software programs.
  • Reserving / signing AV equipment In/Out.

  • Limited troubleshooting and help with arrangements for repair of AV equipment.
  • Maintenance of:
    • dubbing and coding stations.
    • AV equipment in conference rooms.

BMC-AVRC provides the following specialized services to FPG people and projects:

  • Photography — for print, web, multimedia — on- and off-site.
  • Videography — instructional / training / promotional; one- or two-camera fieldwork.
  • Editing
    • Video editing — pre and post production for videos/CD/DVD/Web.
    • Customized audible interval timers for live observation.
  • Behavioral Measurement
    • Specialized lab design and configuration.
    • Project-specific training in the use of behavioral measurement software programs.
    • Customized strategies and techniques, developed collaboratively, for implementation of observational methods and digital capturing, if desired.
    • Assistance with initial set up and configuration, and training, as desired, for project-specific equipment and software.
    • Customized, project-specific training for audio and video recording.

    • Advanced, project-specific training for efficient large-scale dubbing/video capture/conversion to digital format for video and audio files.
    • Extensive project-specific background research and consultation regarding equipment purchases, including selection of equipment and vendors, obtaining quotations, and purchasing.
    • Trouble-shooting, diagnosis, and maintenance for projects with extensive use of AV equipment and editing software, or observational hardware and software, both project-purchased and center-provided.
