Hi everyone,
In Pennsylvania we have a statewide Early Intervention Technical Assistance group of consultants. We coordinated the application for this grant and my position as the project manager for inclusion initiatives fit well with being the liaison for the project.

Hello Everyone, I am the NPDCI state liaison for Georgia. In Georgia, Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning is the lead agency for this collaborative effort. My position at BFTS is as statewide inclusion coordinator so my job responsibilities dovetailed well with the work to be done with NPDCI.

Currently NPDCI is working more intensively with four states: Georgia, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, and Oregon. We'll be accepting applications from other states who would like to partner with NPDCI until April 11, 2008. From these applications, four new states will be selected to partner with NPDCI.

We have been discussing the selection of the State Liaison and are wondering how the 4 states who are currently participating in NPDCI went about selecting the person for this role. We probably have too many ideas and are looking for some guidance to narrow the list. Thank you!

Good question, Anne. One thing to keep in mind is that NPDCI will not be directly providing funds (e.g., a grant) to the participating states. We will be collaborating with multiple agencies in each state to support a sequence of activities. So, for example, if we are providing lunch for a state’s cross-sector council meeting, NPDCI would work out those arrangements directly with the caterer. If I’ve misinterpreted your question, please follow up or give me a call (919/966-6635) so I may be more specific.

I have another question. Is NPDCI looking to contract with a specific type of agency, e.g. goverment, not-for-profit, school board, etc? I realize money isn't changing hands but sometimes funders only want to contract with certain types of agencies. Thank you for your assistance.

Great question, Anne. NPDCI hopes to begin our interactions with each state as soon as possible after identification. Initial conversations with the liaison would lead to scheduling of an in-state meeting with the Steering Committee in summer/early fall. That initial meeting would form the basis for ongoing planning to develop, implement and evaluate the state plan for cross-sector professional development and inclusion. In terms of the duration of NPDCI's interaction with each state, we envision an initial three-year period of active involvement (Steering Committee and Cross-Sector Council meetings, Summit, etc.), followed by available support and technical assistance for the remainder of NPDCI's funding.

According to the application packet, grant award announcements will be made in May. What is the time frame for implementation of the project? When should activities begin, wrap-up, etc.?

There was a request from a state for information about others in their state who may be interested in submitting an application to NPDCI. In general, NPDCI has sent information about the 2008 State Application Package to 619 Coordinators, Head Start Collaboration Directors, and Child Care Administrators in every state. If we have any additional information pertinent to your specific state, we are happy to share that information with you.

Hi Everyone, We''ve had a couple questions about a Word version of the State Application Package - so we made it available for everyone to download - it is under Meeting Materials on this webinar page. We would love to see additional questions or comments posted on this site before our conference call on Monday January 14th.
